Stuart Carrington ousts Charlie Walters in a thrilling final frame battle – Snooker News
Stuart Carrington has beaten Charlie Walters by a frame score of 4-3, in the best-of-seven frames Round 2 match of this season’s World Snooker Q School. This event is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Walters, who previously beat Oliver Brown by a frame score of 4-1, fell down in the second round after a tough battle. However, it was an accomplishing performance from Carrington, as he held his nerves to edge past his opponent in the final deciding frame.
The overall score-line was 71-60 (Carrington 32, Walters 60), 91-24 (Carrington 48), 8-88 (Walters 68), 46-58, 8-79 (Walters 47, 32), 69-22 (Carrington 63) and 71-62 (Walters 40).
The opening frame was pretty dramatic as the first chance in it fell for Walters and it looked as if he is going to win the first frame before he lost control of his emotions, breaking down on 60. A bout of safety play was seen among the players afterwards
but in the end it was Carrington who came on the top to win the first frame, 1-0.
Carrington also pocketed the second frame with a modest break of 48 to lead 2-0, before Walters responded with a classy break of 68 in the third to come within one frame at 2-1. The fourth frame was a scrappy affair, as both players dug deep into the safety
battle. However, it was Walters again who came on top to level proceedings at 2-2.
The fifth frame also went in favour of Walters, as he knocked in carving breaks of 47 and 32 to go in front at 2-3 and it looked as if he is going to secure a place in the next round. However, everyone was left flabbergasted when Carrington clawed back and
took the sixth and seventh frame on a bounce to kill the match.
He fired a magnificent break of 63 in the sixth to force the final deciding frame. The ultimate frame saw Walters once again on the run, but he failed to capitalise on the chance, breaking down on 40 and gifting a chance to his opponent, who showed great
temperament to finish the matter-off in style.
