English potter, Stuart Carrington, made a tremendous mark when he defeated compatriot Stephen Craigie by 4-2, in their quarter-final encounter of the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 and grabbed the tour card.
The match was played on Saturday, May 28, at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Grimsby potter, Carrington started-off brilliantly by winning the first frame with 95-1 after hitting a superb knock of 66 to take an early 1-0 lead. A strong 34-64 reply from Craigie in the second round brought the score level at 1-1.
The 21-year-old Carrington did not let his opponent hope high, as he finished the third frame at 126-0 with an excellent clearance of 83, to lead 2-1 again in the match. His opponent, the 20-year-old, Craigie bounced back with 0-62 and pulled level once
again at 2-2.
The Englishman, Carrington, did not let his opponent come back into the game after that, as he won back-to-back frames by the score line of 59-45 and 84-49 to make his entrance inevitable in the upcoming season. The young Englishman, Carrington, is happy
for making his debut in the professional tour of World Snooker.
While speaking after his victory, Carrington said, “It's a dream come true to turn pro, especially as I have come very close before. In 2009 I finished second to Jimmy Robertson on the EASB tour - if I'd won a couple more frames over the season I would have
been top and got a main tour place.”
The youngster added, “I felt really positive this week and it was the best I have played for ages. Next season I'm just going to try to win as many matches as I can and stay on the tour, then the following season I'll be aiming to push on up the rankings.”
Meanwhile, David Gilbert finally made it to the pro tour after he got two quarter-final defeats in the previous two events of the Q School tour. This time, he beat Martin O’Donnell 4-1 in the quarter-final stage and won the tour card of the upcoming snooker
season.
