Stuart Law says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 had to improve in certain areas – Cricket News Update
Set to make his comeback in the international Test side for the upcoming Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka, in Melbourne (in case http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Grant-Law-c91460 to improve
and work on more than just his batting skills.
Khawaja was named in the 12-man-squad for the 2nd Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 following Australian skipper Michael Clarke’s hamstring strain which prevented him from resuming his second innings of 57* during the Hobart Test.
The 26-year-old was dropped from the side after Hobart Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 last year in light of his poor performance with the bat (scoring only single half century in 11 innings as a Test player so far).
“He's one of the better batsmen technically going around, he's very sound, [but] there's other things these days to playing cricket. You've got to be able to do more than one skill. If you're not bowling you've got to be able to field, and that was pointed
out to Usman a while ago that he has to improve in certain areas, as well as going back and scoring runs,” shared Law.
“He didn't really have a problem with his batting, he didn't get the big scores that would have kept him in the side,” he further added.
However, an impressive domestic season this year (standing at number 5 in terms of most runs) has advocated his return into the side.
The left-handed batsman was pulled out of Australia’s Big Bash League to get him Test practice in case he features in the Boxing Day Test. With the help of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NM-Hauritz-c2122, Law helped Khawaja
train at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 Field while the Pro-Batter technology was also used (synchronised with video footage of the touring Lankan attack) to prepare the batsman against Sri Lankan bowling.
Following his poor show in his last appearance for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, Khawaja will have to keep his nerves to come out strong at Melbourne (if selected) in order to aid his side’s second win at home this summer.
