Stuart Law wants his batsmen to be more consistent in the ongoing tour of England
The Sri Lankan cricket team's coach, Stuart Law, is extremely disappointed with the way his team batted in the second innings of the first Test at Cardiff and handed over a surprising victory to the English team. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 lost the first
Test match by an innings and 14 runs, manging to score only 81 runs.
The first Cardiff Test was heading towards a draw before the start of play on day five but the visitors' batting fell like a house of cards and they were all out for a mere 81 runs, resulting in England winning the match by an innings
and 14 runs.
Law said that the most disappointing thing for him as the coach of the Sri Lankan team is the fact that his team did not show enough courage to compete on the last day.
He admitted that his team’s batting has been inconsistent in this tour and wants the batsmen to get their act together before it is too late.
He said, "We didn't really compete on that last day. It was obviously very disappointing but embarrassing as well, to get bowled out in 25 overs with some of the world's best batsmen in our line-up. We batted well in first innings, we
batted well in second innings in Derby [against England Lions], but in each game we haven't batted well in both”.
The second Test between the two teams is going to start tomorrow at Lords and the Islanders will love to level the series by beating the home team.
Although Law does not want to make an excuse, he said that the rain intervened too much in this Test and the players were mentally unprepared about cricket on the last day of the Cardiff Test.
He refused to admit that his young team is not capable of beating England and claimed that they will bounce back in the Lords Test.
“It can't be a skills issue because our boys are highly skilled players. It was a stop-start Test match with weather intervention, and we were not sure when we were going to start and always guessing when we'd be ready to go”, Law added.
