Former Australian leg-spinner, MacGill, has lent his support to the newly-appointed Oz head coach Mickey Arthur, and said that the South African was the best candidate for the post.
As per the recommendations of the Argus review, Cricket Australia (CA) sacked the ex-coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-John-Nielsen-c94043 and subsequently choose Arthur as the next guy for the hot seat after long consideration.
Arthur holds great experience of coaching different domestic and international sides. He was coaching http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s national squad in the past.
Since the Kangaroos are presently trying hard to put their game back on the winnings ways, the job will not be an easy one for the new man, who is Australia’s first ever overseas coach.
Yet, despite all the turbulent waters, MacGill rated Arthur as a capable guy to bring Australia’s boat back ashore, and hailed CA’s step to prefer the South African over the other candidates.
"It is clear Arthur met the selection criteria for the position of head coach better than any of the other candidates. In my opinion the coach of the Australian team should be focused solely on the guys in the squad at any given time," the Sydney Morning
Herald quoted MacGill, as saying.
"Arthur's role includes a far broader responsibility over coaching and implementation across the Australian cricket framework. This should be handled by somebody who isn't travelling with the team 10 months of the year," added the 40-year-old former bowler
who grabbed 208 scalps in his 44 Test matches for Australia.
Arthur’s immediate challenge will be to lift his side in the imminent clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, set to begin with the opening encounter at Brisbane on December 1, 2011.
He has phenomenal records as a coach, as he helped the Proteas notch first grade in all three versions of the sport during his stint with South Africa from 2005 to 2010.
The 43-year-old will stay as Australia’s mentor till the 2015 World Cup, and the Aussie cricket fans are expecting Arthur to take the Kangaroos back to the top.
