The former Australian leg-spinner, Stuart MacGill, has expressed his desire to play the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying that he is physically fit for Twenty20 cricket.
MacGill, 40, is currently representing the Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League in Australia. So far in the tournament, he has played a couple of games, and was impressive with the ball.
The aggressive leg-spinner claimed that he is hundred percent fit and wants to continue his T20 career. He also said that he returned to competitive cricket in order to gauge his fitness levels, and hoped that the IPL outfits would be interested in picking
him up during the auction.
"I really don't want to get too far ahead of myself here, but I am playing in the BBL because my kids thought I was getting old. I am proving to them that I can still cut it with the young blokes," MacGill told reporters.
The auctions for the fifth season of the lucrative league are scheduled to be held in February next year, with the championship starting from April 4, 2012. MacGill explained that his decent performances in the BBL prompted him to make himself available
for the Indian T20 League.
"I just wanted to see if I could keep together physically and once I ticked that box I thought 'hey, maybe it is worth my while'. Having played a couple of Twenty20 games now, I know I can do it. I don't get too sore. I know I can run around enough. It is
worth a go (IPL)", added the Western Australian spinner, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2008.
During his international career spanning 10 years, the leg-spinner played 44 Test matches for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, grabbing 208 wickets at a fine average of 29.02. He also played three One Day Internationals (ODIs) for his country, but could not cement his place in
the limited-over format.
His compatriot, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals for the last four IPL seasons, but has now retired from the league. The objective of Macgill would to be to emulate Warne in the cash-rich championship.
