Former Australian spinner, Stuart MacGill, has backed ex-teammate Shane Warne to don the Aussie whites again but has warned him about the physical demands of the longer form.
Warne, who is currently playing in the second season of the lucrative Big Bash League, had hinted at a possible return to Test cricket after meeting with close friend and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Michael-Lyon-c78822, Warne claimed that he can indeed fill the role as he feels fighting fit even at the age of 43.
Moreover, he said that the move could help the next wave of Aussie spinners to learn from him, and solve his side’s problem in terms of winning against India in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in middle of next year.
Warne further added that "I've been bowling as good as I have since I retired from international cricket, which was five or six years ago," but that notion was proved wrong when he was smashed all-round the park by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 in the Melbourne derby.
However, the 145-Test veteran, slowly found his groove and put in commendable performances in the next two bouts, which the Stars went onto win comprehensively.
MacGill, who was seen as Warne’s permanent replacement after 2007 but had to retire in 2008 due to persistent injury troubles, feels that Warney can still produce the goods for the national team.
"I'd play him," he told Sydney's Sun-Herald."Should he be picked? If any selector said he shouldn't be picked, that it's not in the best interests of Australian cricket, I laugh at them.
"I'm interested in Australian cricket winning. Not in 10 or 15 years, but every day.  You pick your best team on any given day and if Shane Warne is available, then he's in it."
MacGill however, warned his legendary spin counterpart about the physical aspect of the game, a sentiment already echoed by another veteran spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bradley-Hogg-c59047.
"The only question that needs to be asked is whether he can physically (perform) all day for a couple of days -- but he would know that," MacGill said.
