Stuart MacGill, the former Australian leg spinner, revealed that it was always his ambitions to play at the SCG since retiring abruptly in 2008 and was relieved to have been part of the KFC Big Bash League.
The high-profile high tournament will start in mid December and will see the return of many Australian greats, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672 all coming out of retirement and play for their respective outfits.
For MacGill, the competition is special considering in mind that he will be plying his trade with the Sydney Sixers at the prestigious Sydney Cricket Stadium, a challenge he simply had to take.
"To be honest, the second I heard there was a team based here at the SCG, I did start wondering whether I could do it," MacGill said on Fox Sports News. "There was never a question of me lining up for anyone else, as soon as I found out that there was a
team playing here at the SCG I guess it was always bouncing around in my head, to play here for one more time.”
The spin wizard featured in 44 Tests matches and despite his career always taking a backseat due to the presence of Warne; he still managed to grab over 200 wickets. With Warny retiring after the Ashes triumph in 2007, it was expected that MacGill will carry
on for the baggy green.
However, with constant injury troubles the player announced his retirement in 2008 in the middle of the Australian tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. Not renowned for his ODI career, where he featured in just 3 limited overs game for his national team, the berth in the
KFC Big Bash League will provide him plenty of opportunity to test himself in the shorter version of cricket.
The 40-year-old feels that playing club cricket in Sydney, to gear up for the tournament, will hold him in good stead when the Sixers take the field for their opening match on December 27 against Brisbane Heat.
"[The ball is coming out] a lot better than I thought they would. I've had a pretty easy workload so far [in grade cricket],” added the leg spinner.
