Stuart Meaker, the young http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 as a ‘dream come true’ and feels proud to be a part of the Poms setup.
The young prodigy made his Surrey debut in 2008 and had a spell in Sydney (grade cricket) in order to improve his accuracy. He was also the beneficiary of the ECB bowling academy scholarship which helped him perform well throughout the 2010-2011 English
domestic season.
That led to an England http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 A, where the 22-year-old showed aggression and pace, but could not pick a lot of wickets.
His efforts were rewarded when he was called for a net session by the national team's coaching staff, which was impressed by his overall abilities and decided to select him with the touring party to play the Men In Blue.
Meaker, hearing the news of his selection, was in a jubilant mood and marked the occasion as the proudest moment for him and his family.
"This is a very proud day for me," he said."It's something I've worked my whole life to achieve. It's a proud day for my family and for the club too.
"This is something I've been looking forward to since first playing for Surrey as a young man and I've been looking forward to making this dream come true."
The news has been a surprise to him and he admitted that he was not expecting a call into the national team so soon. However with the rotational policy of the ECB to rest some of its players and with injuries to key personnel, Meaker's chances of making
it to the squad were heightened.
The player has so far played in 21 List A matches having taken 19 wickets with the best of 3 for 22. His figures might not be impressive, but with the English philosophy of giving promising youngsters a chance, it might be a perfect opportunity for the South
Africa born to prove his credentials on a tough tour of the sub-continent.
The Poms play India in 5 ODIs and One Twenty, with the series commencing in the second week of October.
