Stuart O’ Grady disappointed with Matt White’s doping scandal
The sport of cycling has suffered a lot from doping abuse in the past decades however USADA’s recent investigation into Lance Armstrong has really changed a lot of things in the sports.
Several former cyclists confessed doping in order to build a strong case against Armstrong and were given a reduced six-month ban.
Team Orica GreenEdge lost the services of Matt White while the Dutch sponsor, Rabobank ended its old 16-year associations with Team Rabobank by the end of 2012 season.
As many as 26 cyclists confessed doping and 11 of them were Armstrong’s former teammates including Frankie Andreu, Michael Barry, Tom Danielson, Tyler Hamilton, George Hincapie, Floyd Landis, Levi Leipheimer, Stephen Swart, Christian Vande Velde, Jonathan
Vaughters and David Zabriskie.
"Yeah it's uncomfortable because I'm getting asked a lot of questions which I have absolutely no idea about," O'Grady admitted.
"It's uncomfortable because I'm very happy with my career and what I've achieved and some of it's pretty hard to swallow”.
"At the end of the day, I've been available whenever they want to talk and I'm happy to tell them everything that I know - most of the time I'm not going to have any of the answers that they're hoping for or want - but hopefully I can give an insight into
my life and my world and the teams,” he concluded.
Stuart O Grady marked his professional crusade with Team GAN in 1995 and spent a period of nine years with the team.
He joined Team Cofidis through 2004-05 and signed a five year deal with Team CSC, through 2006-10 before joining Team Leopard Trek in 2011.
The 39-year-old signed with the UCI debutant side, Team Orica-GreenEdge in 2012 and helped the team with a stage 1 victory at the Tirreno-Adriatico and a sixth place finish at the Olympics Road Race.
Lance Armstrong used systematic doping to achieve desired results and went onto win as many as seven Tour de France 2012 victories throughout his professional career.
UCI stripped him off from all his previous wins since 1998 including seven consecutive overall victories at the Tour de France.
