The English International has been the mainstay of the Toffees rearguard since arriving at Goodison Park almost five years ago. He has been one of the top performers for the Merseyside outfit in the ongoing campaign, playing a valuable role in both, defence
and offence.
As it is the case with any world class player, the defender drew interest from the Premier League’s big guns during the summer. Manchester United were then reported to be keeping close tabs on the 28-year old, but failed to acquire his services over differences
with Everton over the player’s price tag.
Baines, who is also a member of the English national squad for the World Cup Qualifiers, is deemed by some as the best left-back in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 to be the finest player at the position.
According to Stubbs, it is the Evertonian who is currently the most inspirational left-back in the English league.
The Englishman observed that Baines has formed a potent partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 at the left flank, which is second to none in the EPL, and also praised his exceptional fitness and hunger to do well every time he steps onto the field.
“I think the discussion out there is, ‘who is the best left-back in the country at the moment?’ and I’ve got to say Ashley Cole has been fantastic over the years but, in my opinion and on recent form and everything, for me the best left-back has been Leighton
Baines,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“He’s a manager’s dream. He doesn’t really cause too many problems. He’s always fit. He’s always ready to play. You know exactly what you’re going to get from him in games and he’s got fantastic quality.”
Baines was signed by the Toffees for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of 5 million pounds in 2007. Since then, he has made 222 appearances for the club and notched up 17 goals during this period. He has also got 13 international caps for England
