Hi all,

I've battled C. difficile off and on since July of 2007. I ended a long round of vancomycin in March and was told I was cured.

Last night my bf convinced me to accompany him on a business trip to Montreal, even though I was feeling tired and nauseous.

I woke up this morning with severe cramps and diarrhea. I'm from Ontario. Anyone have any experience with Montreal hospitals? Advice? I can't travel 7 hours by car home when I have to go to the bathroom constantly...

I think I should go to the e.r. at Montreal General...but I'm not sure they'll do anything for me...help

  1. Montreal has some world-reknowned hospitals, and you should not be afraid to go to the Montreal General, the Royal Victoria, or the Jewish General. All of these are good places with helpful staff and exceptional care.

Some of the smaller hospitals (Verdun General and Santa Cabrini for example) do not have as high a profile, and used to have service that was more suspect, either due to the quality of the doctors or the cleanliness of the building. That may or may no longer be the case. Just telling you what I have heard in the past.

The Lakeshore General in West Island and Cite de la Sante in Laval both had outbreaks of C. Difficile last year and they have had to do a lot of work to address that problem. My guess is that they would have had a lot of experience with this problem and may be able to offer some good treatment and advice to help you.

As I am sure you are aware by know, C. Difficile is transmitted by contact, and even if you think you have started to recover, it can come back quite easily. Washing your hands after handling bedsheets, underwear, going to the bathroom, and using anti-bacterial cleansers on taps, door handles, etc will help reduce the chance that you (or others) may pick up this bug and spread it around.

  2. I answered you and I am in montreal. I answered your other question over the same issue.
