Question:

Stuck in Paris?

My friend is on a Med.cruise ending in Venice on Mon. He has trains booked (TGV Venice/Paris then Eurostar Paris/UK) to get home but is concerned that the current strikes in France may make that impossible. Does anybody know if the Venice-Paris leg will still be o.k. even if the French are still on strike; also, is Eurostar still running regardless? In France, is it just the rail workers or are others out in sympathy? He's not allowed to drive or fly for health reasons; can he get to a ferry port by bus? Any suggestions for alternative routes etc much appreciated.

  1. As of today roughly 150 of the usual 700 high-speed TGV trains were running, up from 90 on the strike's first day on Wednesday. The SNCF predicted further improvements on Friday, with 250 TGVs scheduled.

Further details as to specific trains can be found here: http://www.infolignes.com/rubrique.php3?...

  2. I believe that Eurostar is running.  You can look on their website to know for sure, but I was on it a few days ago and didn't see any announcements about cancellations.  From what I hear from people who have traveled in the last few days, there are some trains running.  Basically, if you have a ticket but your train is cancelled, you can use the ticket on any train that day for that destination.  For example, there are 2 trains now from Paris to where I live, whereas usually are more.  If you have a ticket for any train, you can get on either of them that go that day. Of course, this should be checked out because it's just what I heard and also things change every minute.   I would suggest looking on a TGV website to see which legs they are currently running. As far as getting to a ferry port by bus I have no idea.  To get around Paris though if needed he should probably rent a bike or something.   Good luck!
