Question:

Stuck in start up loop

Unit would not startup into windows without being in safe-mode. Regular start up would just keep rebooting as XP loaded. After finding no software solution, I re-particianed the drive and attempted to reload XP. It would reboot as it approached the point in loading, where you enter user name and validation code. Next, replaced the drive, and the same situation in loading occurred. Next: started removing devices... removed half the memory, then tried using the other half...eliminated everything except a processor... Then pulled out #1 cpu and it came back to life. It's only just been loaded and it's noticeably slower, but MS-Word/Office and Windows functions seem fine. Loaded service pack 2, then 3 without complications. Re-installing the cpu keeps the system from even trying to start. Part of me is saying to just back away slowly and don't breath on it.... another part is asking "what the heck happened?" Will this board properly function with only the #2 cpu? Thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated.
