my son has a feild trip coming up and the school says any child with behavioral issues, to many absences, unpaid lunch fees, missing library books cant go. when the school sent the permission slip home. I had to return it with $5 asap, because the activities are on first come first serve.so basicaly who ever has the money in first has the most fun.. My son has missed alot of days because I was stuck in ohio with a broke down car and he had to miss a week of school..even if the absences are exscused the child still cant go. my son is so excited about this trip and im not sure how to break it to him if he cant go. its all he talks about lately, he is only 6. is there a website about student rites? and if my son cant go I was thinking of making the principle tell him. because he is the one who decides who goes or not. And Im certian my son wont be able to go. do you think the school is being to hard on the children?

  1. apparently some people have never heard of taking a weekend trip while school was in session huh oy vey...people should just not see out or state relatives while school is in and set home all weekend waiting for the bus to run on monday too i guess.   please....

anyway, you need to talk to the principal, if the absences are the only issue he may allow your child to still go, even 8 absences in one school year isnt bad, and you dont even know that he cant go yet. if  none of the other issues exist with your son i wouldnt worry too much about it. but if they told me he couldnt go, THEN id be finding out why.

now,,the unpaid 3 dollar lunch bill thing,,,,THAT i would have raised h**l over, they better be feeding my kid, if we feed our kids a slice of bread and milk for lunch cps could be  on our backs like ugly on an ape....so why should the school be allowed to do it?

  2. I'd talk to the school, but this is one of the many reasons I choose to homeschool, too much carp in the school system and not enough learning.

  3. I think you should make a stink about it because the absences were EXCUSED, i think that is very wrong of them to include those absences....if they only wanted certain students going on the field trip than they shouldn't have sent the paper home with everybody than it would have been up to them to explain why only certain students were allowed to go.

  4. Lunch fees? WTF! Schools should provide the lunches, not parents giving money for them! This school sounds like a load of bollocks!

  5. Students RIGHTS are that they get to attend school.  Nowhere in the law does it say they should get to go on every field trip or not be punished for things such as behavior, attendance, etc.  It IS however a law that a parent gets their child to school.  Next year, you need to try harder to improve your childs attendance, it is sad to see a child miss school because of a parents bad decisions.

  6. go up to the schol and raise h**l

  7. I somehow doubt that being stuck in Ohio with a broken down vehicle is an excused absence.  Why were you out of state when school was in session anyway?  This is unfortunate for your child, but if that is the rule of the school then your child may not be attending this field trip.  It does sound like you are leaving parts of the story out and, no, I don't think the school is being harsh.  Rules are rules.  We all must live by them and accept them.  It sounds like you didn't follow the rules and now your child is the one suffering.

Edit*  I am in *love* with AM's response-too much "carp" in the school system!  That's awesome!   I didn't know they had any fish! Way to home school!

  8. i have three children in Ohio schools. where does your son go to school?

please stress education. your spelling is horrendous. is your child on an IEP or handicapped? he can not be held back because of emotional issues. is he a child who is disruptive to the class? you have left many things unsaid here. type in your state and children's RIGHTS. this should get you somewhere.
