I've got a rubbish credit rating and I need a student bank account. I've applied to HSBC and Barclays but they both said no and will need the overdraft facility as i start uni next month.

Any suggestions? I live in England.

  1. NatWest, Abbey, LloydsTSB, Co-Op, Halifax, Royal Bank of Scotland etc

  2. I don't know if they have credit unnions in the UK, but those financial institutions are more generous than the traditional ones

  3. You could try asking to speak to an advisor in a bank, they might tell you what your options are and what you can do. I'm with Natwest, but then again I don't have any bad credit rating, so I'm not really sure what you could do.

Do you have a current account? Because you could then upgrade to a student account with the same bank you're in currently

  4. Try Halifax their ovd for students this year is £3000
