Question:

Student checking for Bank of America or Chase? Hard Credit checks? ?

I am opening Bank of America's CampusEdge checking account tomorrow (well technically today since it's past 12). It was a hard decision between Chase and Bank of America. I'm worried about what would happen after I graduate. I know they are going to switch me over to their normal checking accounts. So is BoA the way to go? I heard BoA's customer service was pretty bad.

Please don't tell me about other banks because it's only between the two. I think I need some convincing. =[

I've also been hearing all these stuff about them pulling a hard credit check. Is this true? Would this affect me any way? I've never had a bank account nor a credit card before so doesn't that mean I don't have any?

Thank you in advance <3

  1. I don't bank with BofA or Chase, so I am not much help there. I will say that a bank is only as good as the local branch, as far as I am concerned.

However, when you open a checking account they do not "hard pull" your credit report. A hard pull is used by a potential lender or creditor as a means to gauge your ability to repay the loan. It is quite different from them just letting you store money there and use checks.

FYI If you applied for a credit card with BofA, then they would do a hard pull of your credit report.

  2. I had a business checking account with chase and i can say they really suck.

    im now with

National City Bank & TCF bank and i still have a savings with chase
