Question:

Student journalist looking for story ideas?

Hey everyone, I'm a journalism student looking for a story idea for an arts magazine I will be writing for this spring.

The general topics can cover pretty much anything from philosophy, modern art and social issues.

I'm looking for a topic that will fit the general outline of the magazine and spark interest in readers.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

  1. How about a monthly writing contest using a random image for a prompt.

Several others are using it, critiquing each other and growing as writers.

This means, an ongoing set of prompts loan you a new spectrum every month.

  2. Explore how certain syles of music can be used to suggest an abstract concept, such as progress, wealth, love, plenty.

Do that very well, and you will certainly go far.

As I think about this, there are lots of examples, especially for the negative ideas, such as dominant conquest.

Even if in the end your article concludes that there isn't a connection, you ought to get some real thinking started.

Beethoven's Choral Fantasy is not used by accident in the financial investment advertisement . This successful ad made famous the phrase "doing [such-and-such], one investor at a time." The "optimistic" music suggests elegance (not just for the ordinary middle class -- a subtle way of marketing it to upper-mobile middle class folks), industry and order.

    Think "Finlandia."

  3. I have a few writing on my blog, or you can get new ideas from reading it.
