Question:

I have a lot of students who want to call me "mom" or "mamma". Each year I have one or two that get attached to me in this way but this year, my goodness it seems really excessive. I would say there are at least 10-20 kids who want to call me "mom". Any ideas on what that could be about?

  1. They hear their friends calling you mom, and the want to feel like they are part of the circle also!  YOu must be nurturing, and they are all copying each other.

  2. You have allot of kids that really need someone that cares about them - simple but sad.

  3. that's good! they just showing their appreciation....

  4. You shouldn't allow them to call you mom. At such a young age, they tend to call anyone who is "nurturing" a mom. They must identify as their teachers. They have to learn that you have to call everyone as they should. They have one mom only. In order to not hurt their feelings, you should tell them that they only have one mom and they should be proud of her. You are their teacher. You are there to help them understand many school subjects. Therefore, you are their teacher, not their mom. I know it feels good but it is important that they learn to identify everyone correctly now.
