I am thinking about studying abroad in Auckland, New Zealand and I was wondering if it is a college town at all. What are the people like? What are some fun things I should try when I am there? What is the night life like? Also, if you have anything else important I should know, feel free to let me know.

Thanks! :)

  1. A friend of mine is from Auckland. It seems that New Zealand is a good place for girls because men outnumber women there (if that is your preference).

New Zealand is also the home of bungee jumping.

My friend recommends going to an All Blacks rugby game as New Zealand apparently have one of the world's best national rugby teams and the experience is something extraordinary. He also recommends traveling to the South Island because of its beautiful sights and going wine tasting there. Hope this helps.

  2. Here's a good page about studying abroad in New Zealand:

  3. Depends on what area of Auckland (or even what area of New Zealand) you're at. Every place has its own distinctness, in my opinion.

New Zealand is a great place to study in if, a.) you like nature/birds/animals/trees/green-stuff/s... as NZ has many places with beautiful scenery, or b.) you like the outdoors, bungee jumping, kayaking, tramping, extreme/adventure-type sports, or c.) you like sports, especially rugby. It's a huge generalization, I know, and there are many things to do aside those, but that's really what New Zealand have that others don't. Auckland is a nice city compared to the rest of New Zealand, but if you compare to places like New York or Japan or Hong Kong, it's probably better to go to Hong Kong for the shopping. Whereas if you particularly like a.b.c. above, you'll probably find it best in New Zealand. Universities in Auckland, I hear, are generally fun and good to go to. I don't know much about the night-life though.

People are friendly. You'll also find it's very multicultural, e.g. Asians, Europeans, Maori/Pacific Islanders, in Auckland especially. In some areas it's very well-integrated, in some it's not so much.

If you have any specific questions about Auckland, feel free to ask.
