Study abroad and exchange programs?

This is probably a dumb question, but what's the differences between study abroad and exchange programs?

My university doesn't seem to offer an exchange program (I can't find any info. on it) only study abroad program, but the uni. that I want to go to offer both, and they said that if I join an exchange program, there's more chance of them accepting my application than applying as study abroad. is this true?

Is it possible to arrange my own studying abroad thing? or what are some options I can take so that I can study a semester in another country at my choice of uni.?

My uni. doesn't have the school I want to go to, so I'm not sure what to do in order to get into the school I want...

If you have any past experience can you please give me more information about what you did or you can contact/message me...I'm planning to study abroad next year or so.

  1. Study abroad generally means you are there for 6 months. Exchange program means you are there for longer then 6 months. Usually to get your degree or just for a year or two. Study abroad programs are a lot easier to get into then exchange programs. They require a lower GPA and usually cost less.

You cannot and I suggest you don't arrange your own "program". You are basically saying you want to study on your own. This will not only be more expensive but your credits will not transfer back. So you will be doing it on your own free time and funds.

Your only option is to attend a school second-best since you don't have the option to attend the one you want too.

Feel free to message me for more info!
