Hi. I am an American of East Indian origin and I plan to study abroad in London in the beginning of my junior year of college. I am wondering how friendly are the British to Americans especially to people of East Indian origin. That is, will I face much prejudices when I study abroad in London?

  1. London is very multi-cultural. Being raised in London, i think hearing an American accent is funny in a curious way but then the novelty wears off and after people just get used to the accent.

There are soo many different cultures in London, that having an east Indian American would be easily welcomed. I think at the end of the day it is down to personality more than anything. You would need to be able to get the humour more so than having to worry about any prejudices on where you are from.

  2. I don't know about East Indian exactly, but I do know that London is a pretty tolerant place. It is a very diverse city with tons of people from around the world. As long as you make a reasonably decent effort to respect their culture, you should be fine. I am an American who studied in London and I found I got along with British people better than the other Americans.
