Study abroad to Ecuador?

Hey, I am trying to get my checklist together. On sunday i am leaving for a month long trip to ecuador?

Anyone know what the weather is like on a normal day?

Culture that I should be aware of?

Um...I dunno, i got the basics, but i know im gonna get there and not have something...um..do i need a plug adaptor?

  1. I lived in Guayaquil, Ecuador for 18 months and it really depends on where you're going to study.

    NEVER wear shorts--you'll look too American and they were not allowed at the University I studied.

    If you use a taxi, ALWAYS ask how much before entering. No more than $3 to go across town. IF they hear your accent, they will try to ask for more but you can just choose the next taxi coming up the road.  They have more taxis there than cars. Always bargain with the taxi driver--it will always help your Spanish too. I got really good at saying "Nooooo, dos y media"

    In Guayaquil, the weather is warm but indoor restaurants or Universities are always too cold. So bring a sweater no matter what.

    You don't need a plug adapter but you may need to bring a surge protector--we ruined many appliances because of the power surges.
