  1. You're right, waiting until the last minute certainly doesn't help; to get rid of this habit simply get started on your work way before it's due, and try not to rush through it. Therefore, if you happen to get stuck or have a further question you can go and ask your teacher; learning like this, in a relaxed manner (since there's not that much pressure of the due date) will make you learn more thoroughly.

As for quizzes and tests, there's nothing better to do than to study. If you know what the quiz is about, study stuff relevant to it (past assignments, notes, the book). If not, if you do the homework as I instructed above you should be fine. The same goes for tests, although you do know what the test covers, so study well for it.

There's one more thing; if you're really serious about getting your grades up, you have to make time for your studies, put them first on your priority list. This might mean you might sacrifice a little, not going out as much, not watching as much tv, etc. It will take serious dedication to accomplish your goal; always keep this formula in mind:

    Hard Work+Dedication=Success

Stick by this and you'll be fine; I hope this helps :)

  2. I used to have the same problem in high school, so I know how you feel. I start studying a few days before the exam, and the first thing I do is read through the text book, or notes that you have highlighting the most important things. The next day I go through the things that I highlighted and write out notes (in an outline format). Then I study just from those notes because they made up of the most important information, and they are neat and organized. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but I promise it's worth it! Good luck, hope this helps!

  3. You need to figure out how you study best. Do you study better when it's quiet or with music or in front of the tv or with friends? Find what works best and use it. Be consistent with where you study. It's good to make studying a priority and study as soon as you get home, taking frequent breaks (decide ahead of time how often and how long), and then study again. Decide if you study best off your notes, with flashcards, with memory tricks (like acronymns or rhymns), rewriting things in your own words, or reading material aloud. Try studying standing up, sitting down, lying down.Try everything and you may be surprised with what works best for you.

  4. I have the same problem. Get a prescription for Adderall XR it works great when you are trying to study for a quiz or test. I stay focused for hours. If you do decide to take this medication be sure to go to the doctor first and get checked out to make sure you can take this and if you start to see that you are getting addicted to it stop taking it.

  5. There are a number of good books on study tips. I wouldn't recommend that you spend a lot of money, but there are probably a lot in your school library.

If there is a study center, or skills center at your school, get there early in the year and ask the specialist for help. Commit to doing your homework as soon as you get home from school each day. See your teachers for extra help after school. Resist the temptation to play computer games, watch YouTube, or do internet chat: these things are time killers.

The most important thing though is to commit yourself to whatever you decide to do. If you decide to spend every afternoon studying, then you can't just blow it off. It takes fortitude to succeed, and if you really want to do well, you will have to make some trade-offs, even if your social life suffers a bit.

As for tests, NEVER try to cram..... as you stated, it just does not work. There isn't anything you can do about unannounced quizzes, but if you have done the reading, done the homework, gone for extra help regularly, and remained focused, you will do just fine.

    Good luck.

  6. My study habit sound alot like your but my favourite studying trick is, before a test look over all your notes and make a study sheet that has everything you have learn. The only catch is that you can only make it 1 page front and back long. THat way its the most important stuff you NEED to know. This sheet will become very handy around exam time because you don't have to flip through your notes.

  7. It has been proven that studying with gaps in between helps A HECK OF A LOT MORE than cramming it all in

it's better to study, say. . .mon., wed. , fri.

then to study a lot on fri and sat.

that really helps me a lot, hope it helps you

another thing that helps me a bunch is going over the notes I take right away when I get home, not right before going to bed, cuz you'll be too exhausted by then

whatever notes you take during your classes, read over them upon arriving home

    good luck

sophmore year is tough, but you could survive and make ith through more than okay once you figure out your study habits

  8. you don't do good on tests and quizzes because you don't learn anything and therefore can not apply any knowledge on the problems given on the tests.

You mindlessly do assignments just to get by, but you don't understand anything.

in short, you are not a smart person.

  9. You are very smart to realize that good study habits are important!  It's good that you are in the habit of doing your homework, which means you are already ahead of a lot of students.

Go to this site and check out the How to Study page:

If you develop good habits now, you'll reap the benefits for the rest of your life!

  10. If you do your homework and get good grades on it, the problem might be that you have testing anxiety. There are books out there that will help with this, such as "Overcoming Math Anxiety" by Sheila Tobias, for example. You should also talk with your school guidance counselor and see what study tips they have. Google "study tips" to find lots of sites that will help. Good Luck and stick with it! You will be hugely rewarded by your hard work.

Also... you don't need drugs to make good grades. Just hard work!
