  1. Don't get overwhelmed. Take things one day at a time. When you get home from school, look over your notes. You don't have to read all the chapters that day in one sitting. Just read a couple of pages from your textbooks and look over your notes. You will absorb and learn more that way, and also remember more by the time test days arrive.

  2. You are lucky to have got by and got good grades until now just by brainpower, but, as you now realise, you will have to put more effort into your work. It is a matter of discipline and you can no longer dash an answer and hope for the best. Studying is no big deal if you take things one step at a time and you make it interesting for yourself by researching and reading around the subjects that need it. Do not leave homework to the last minute, ever, and give yourself time to do it properly. In subjects like Literature, Sciences, History or Geography, write cards with the main points of each topic and file them in a shoe box .You will be glad to find them at revision time for examinations. If you are studying a foreign language learn a few new words everyday, or a verb so that your knowledge builds up over time, and read simple things that will reinforce sentence structures in your mind. It does not have to be boring stuff. There are simple texts that you can find on the net and verb tables to help you.

Set yourself tasks for everyday, do them and then reward yourself with whatever appeals to you, chatting to friends, watching tv, swimming, whatever.... Half of the battle is to take the first step. You sound very bright and once you are hooked it will become easier and  you will wonder why you thought it was going to be so taxing. If you are in a corner, do not hesitate to ask your teachers for explanations or advice. That is what they are there for and there is no shame in wanting to do well.

You have enjoyed getting "A"s and you will feel mortified if you now get mediocre grades, so this should be an incentive to keep up to the same standard from now on. Good Luck!
