Matthew 4:23-25..... 23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

Cross reference scriptures Matt 9:35, Mark 6:6 & 1:14 & 1:39, Luke 4:16, Acts 13:14, Luke 9:11, Acts 10:38 & 15:41, Mark 6:55, Matt 17:15, Mark 1:32, Acts 5:16 Mark 3:7, Luke 6:17

Please feel free to look up any of the quoted scriptures .

Three general words are here used. He healed every sickness or disease; none was too bad; none too hard, for Christ to heal with a word. Three diseases are named; the palsy, which is the greatest weakness of the body; lunacy, which is the greatest malady of the mind; and possession of the devil, which is the greatest misery and calamity of both; yet Christ healed all, and by thus curing bodily diseases, showed that his great errand into the world was to cure spiritual maladies. Sin is the sickness, disease, and torment of the soul: Christ came to take away sin, and so to heal the soul.

Note

Decapolis. A district containing ten cities east of the Jordan and the Sea of Galilee. Notice, in the ministry of Jesus, (1) He was active; (2) He went where people were; (3) He went where the busiest people were --fisherman, those at work, Simon and Andrew--those preparing to work, James and John; (4) He went where worshiping people were; (5) He went where needy people were.

  1. From the time of the rebellion in Eden,

Jehovah has held before mankind the comforting promise that he will provide deliverance for all lovers of righteousness through the Seed of his "woman." This Seed, or Messiah, he purposed to bring forth from the nation of Israel. As the centuries passed, he caused to be recorded scores of prophecies through the inspired Hebrew writers,

showing that the Seed would be Ruler in the Kingdom of God and that he would act for the sanctification of Jehovah's name, clearing it forever of the reproach that has been heaped upon it. Many details were provided through these prophets concerning this one who would be Jehovah's vindicator and who would bring about deliverance from fear, oppression, sin, and death. With the completion of the Hebrew Scriptures, the hope in the Messiah was firmly established among the Jews.

In the meantime the world scene had been changing.

God had maneuvered the nations in preparation for the Messiah's appearance, and the circumstances were ideal for

spreading the news of that event far and wide. The 5th world power, Greece, had provided a common language,

a universal means of communication among the nations.

Rome, the 6th world power, had welded its subject nations into one world empire and had provided roads to make all parts of the empire accesible. Many Jews had been scattered throughout this empire, so that others had learned of the Jews' expectation of a coming Messiah.

And now, more than 4,000 years after the Edenic promise, the Messiah had appeared! The long awaited promised Seed had come! The most important events thus far in the history of mankind unfolded as the Messiah faithfully carried out here on earth the will of the Father.

"Repent, you people, for the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near." These electrifying words are now proclaimed in galilee by the Anointed Jesus. He calls four fishermen from their nets to follow him and become "fishers of men," and he travels with them "throughout the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news of the Kingdom and curing every sort of disease and every sort of infirmity among the people."

  2. The commentary possibly suggests Jesus isn't into "the healing business" any more. Although it emphasises rightly how comprehensively Jesus healed every kind of illness.

I think christian healing ministries have in the last century done some  amazing work, healing the physically and mentally broken and the tormented. People like FF Bosworth, John G. Lake, Smith Wigglesworth, Kathryn Kuhlmann, T L Osbourne, David Hogan, Heidi Baker and Benny Hinn have had healing ministries in Jesus' name acting through the power of the Holy Spirit (and that is just the protestant/evangelical/charismatic/pente...  christians). There have been accounts of people 'growing' missing limbs in a couple of cases in the Azusa street revival in the first decade of the last century. People have been raised from the dead in David Hogan's and Heidi Baker's teams' missionary work.

Some references to miracles in the early church:

    Acts 3:1-11

    Acts 5:15-16

    Acts 19:11-12

    Galatians 3:5

    Romans 15:18-19

    Hebrews 2:3-4

  3. By Jove, I think you've got it..

  4. Jesus went about (1) teaching, (2) preaching, and (3) healing.

Romans 12:6-7, "Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, . . . according to the proportion of faith: . . . he that teacheth, on teaching."

2 Timothy 4:2, "Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season."

1 Corinthians 12:9, "To another the gifts of healing by the same spirit."

"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal" (1 Corinthians 12:7).

Use your talent, use it well. That's ten cities (Luke 19:17).

Do your job, do it well. That's the Kingdom (Matthew 25:34).
