Matthew 4:8....Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.

See Matt 16:26....What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?

Also 1 John 2:16....For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world

And Re 11:15...The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:

"The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ,

and he will reign for ever and ever."

1 John 2:15...Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

In study of this scripture i came across this statement.

an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them-Luke (Lu 4:5) adds the important clause, "in a moment of time"; a clause which seems to furnish a key to the true meaning. That a scene was presented to our Lord's natural eye seems plainly expressed. But to limit this to the most extensive scene which the natural eye could take in, is to give a sense to the expression, "all the kingdoms of the world," quite violent. It remains, then, to gather from the expression, "in a moment of time"-which manifestly is intended to intimate some supernatural operation-that it was permitted to the tempter to extend preternaturally for a moment our Lord's range of vision, and throw a "glory" or glitter over the scene of vision: a thing not inconsistent with the analogy of other scriptural statements regarding the permitted operations of the wicked one. In this case, the "exceeding height" of the "mountain" from which this sight was beheld would favor the effect to be produced.

Luke 4:5....KJV...

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

Personal note...There is so much in this little scripture & the word world , it's hard to know when to stop quoting scriptures .

What do you think of the Statement i quoted , is it right or wrong , why ?

What world was Satan offering , all the world , only what Jesus could see from the mountian ?

Was Satan offering Jesus what he could have anyway ?

Have i missed any important points ?

Can you add relevant scriptures or comments ?

  1. (1 John 5:19) . . .We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one. . .

  2. Yeah, you missed the important point where you show that the bible and christianity is even true in the first place.  Without that the scriptural verses are meaningless.

  3. I think you have covered the scripture very well.

I like the way you are studying into the meaning of the scriptures , i am sure once you know the answers you will have a solid faith.

Don't listen to those saying you are thinking to much.

Here is a scripture for your encouragement.

    1 Tim 4:15-16

15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Any Christian worth his/her salt would only encourage you.

Thank you for doing something different on R&S but i think it must not be easy , unless you rattle it off from your head.

  4. Love how you research.

In a third temptation, the Devil shows Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in some miraculous way and says: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.”

The temptation of Jesus shows that all the world governments are the Devil’s property. For how could the Devil’s offering them to Christ have been a real temptation if they were not really his? (1 Jo 5:19;2 Cor 4:4)

Certainly there is no mountain from which one could be shown “all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.” So too, we must reasonably conclude that Satan did not literally, bodily, physically, take Jesus “along into the holy city” and station him “upon the battlement of the temple.” Such was not at all necessary for the temptation to have force.—Matt. 4:3-10.

Yes, Satan was offering Jesus rulership. The same thing that God himself was extending to him, but at a later time. However, Jesus stayed faithful. And he received the reward of ruling in God's heavenly government. A rulership so much grander ! (Rev 5:9,10;Ps 37:11,29)

  5. It is another lie of Satan.  The Jehovah's Witnesses, and many others have bought the lie that Satan was selling...to wit:  That Satan controls the world and it was his to offer.  GOD OWNS the world, it's not Satan's to offer to anyone.  God created it...and while it was marred because of the sin of man...and yes, Satan has influence over individuals...Satan does not own or control nor can he offer the world and its kingdom to anyone.

Psalm 24:1 and 1 Corinthians 10:26 echo togehter:

"The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof: the world, and all they that dwell therein. "

Now how can these scriptures be true if Satan controled it all.  Be sure, Satan has influence, but that he offered the Kingdoms of the World to Christ is like me showing you the Brooklyn Bridge and offering it for sale...DON'T BE A SUCKER, you wouldn't believe I can see you the Brooklyn Bridge, don't believe Satan can offer the world, it's just another of his lies.

  6. Does straining a gnat and swallowing a camel mean anything to you?  I like your zeal, but the answer is painfully simple.  It does not matter what kingdom Satan offered Jesus on that mountain the simple truth was if you worship ME and not God I will give you this.  Jesus could never be tempted by such a paltry offer if it was Israel or the entire world.  He was already Crown Prince and all Satan was doing was saying you can rule how you wish and have it NOW and not wait or suffer the cross.

  7. The tempter has a limited knowledge of time and what is to come, the kingdoms of this world that were shown the Lord are the magnificence of deceptive Babylon of the future (now) and note that he said that if only that Thou would bend knee to me, i will give You all these things and the Lord rebuked him. Satan tried to give what is not rightfully his to give, he thinks that since he has been cast to the Earth that he is the rightful ruler and he will deceive man until his end day. Because he has deceived man through time he has moulded man and the world hence John saying do not love the world nor anything in it, because it has become corrupted.

    Peace

  8. When Lucifer was kicked out of heaven, he was given rule over the earth and the creations on it.  He had the authority to offer that rule to Jesus but if Jesus would have worshiped him, Jesus would not have been our perfect minister and example, he would not have gotten out of h**l.

    Don't overthink the issue.
