Matthew 5:9.....Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called sons of God.

See Romans 12:18....If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Hebrews 12:4....In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

James 3:18....Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness

Matt 5:45...so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Luke 6:35..."But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

Romans 8:14.... For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

More scriptures ....1Ch 12:17 Ps 34:12 120:6 122:6-8 Ac 7:26 Ro 12:18 14:1-7,17-19 1Co 6:6 2Co 5:20 13:11 Ga 5:22 Eph 4:1 Php 2:1-3 4:2 Col 3:13 2Ti 2:22-24 Heb 12:14 Jas 1:19,20 3:16-18

Matt 45,48 Ps 82:6,7 Lu 6:35 20:36 Eph 5:1,2 Php 2:15,16 1Pe 1:14-16

Comment.... Blessed are the peacemakers. Not the soldiers of a warrior king, such as the Jews expected but the men who, in the name of the Prince of Peace, go forth to proclaim peace and good will among men. Christ is the great Peacemaker.

Is the above comment correct , why or why not.

How can we become a peacemaker ?

How does Hebrews 12:4 tie in with Matt 9:9 ?

Can you add any relevant scriptures or comments ?

  1. Peace has been defined as “a state of tranquillity or quiet.” Such a definition would cover many situations in which there is an absence of strife. Why, even a dead person is at peace! To enjoy true peace, however, one needs to be more than just peaceful. In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said: “Happy are the peaceable, since they will be called ‘sons of God.’” (Matthew 5:9) Jesus was speaking to individuals who would later have the opportunity of becoming spiritual sons of God and receiving immortal life in heaven.  (John 1:12) However, as many as did receive him, to them he gave authority to become God’s children, because they were exercising faith in his name;

(Romans 8:14-17) For all who are led by God’s spirit, these are God’s sons. 15 For YOU did not receive a spirit of slavery causing fear again, but YOU received a spirit of adoption as sons, by which spirit we cry out: “Abba, Father!” 16 The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 If, then, we are children, we are also heirs: heirs indeed of God, but joint heirs with Christ, provided we suffer together that we may also be glorified together.

And eventually, all of faithful mankind who do not have a heavenly hope will enjoy “the glorious freedom of the children of God.”

(Romans 8:21) that the creation itself also will be set free from enslavement to corruption and have the glorious freedom of the children of God.

Only the peaceable can have such a hope. The Greek word for “peaceable” literally means “peacemakers.” There is often a difference between being peaceful—at peace—and being peaceable. Being peaceable in the Scriptural sense implies actively promoting peace, sometimes making peace where it was previously lacking.

  2. Another great question.  I wish there were more questions like this on R&S.

    Mat 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers - Those who strive to prevent contention, strife, and war; who use their influence to reconcile opposing parties, and to prevent lawsuits and hostilities in families and neighborhoods. Every man may do something of this; and no man is more like God than he who does it. There ought not to be unlawful and officious interference in that which is none of our business; but without any danger of acquiring this character, every man has many opportunities of reconciling opposing parties. Friends, neighbors, people of influence, lawyers, physicians, ministers of the gospel, may do much to promote peace. And it should be taken in hand in the beginning. “The beginning of strife,” says Solomon, “is like the letting out of water.” “An ounce of prevention,” says the English proverb, “is worth a pound of cure.” Long and most deadly quarrels might often be prevented by a little kind interference in the beginning.

Children of God - See Mat_1:1. Those who resemble God, or who manifest a spirit like his. He is the Author of peace 1Co_14:33; and all those who endeavor to promote peace are like him, and are worthy to be called his children.

  3. it means those who are born again..

  4. It doesn't make sense to you because The Beatitudes are not complete.

Google "The Gospel of Thomas"  - he has a whole bunch of extra Beatitudes to add that never made it into the official story.

  5. the sermon on the mount has some great messages, based on ancient Greek ideas.

It gets a bit worrying, though, when Jesus tells his followers to cut off their own hands and feet, and pluck out their own eyes, to avoid the sin of adultery (verses 27-30).

  6. You can not be warring, causing strife and dissension.  Jehovah is a God of peace, justice, love, mercy and righteousness.  Therefore his sons will demonstrate these qualitites.
