Study re: Sexual History by Gender?

Hi. I'm looking for a study on sexual histories, and in particular I'd like to see data on the number of sexual partners, broken down by gender. So the data might say, Men aged 20-29 - average number of sexual partners, 2.25. etc. I'm also interested in other statistical measures, like the mode, so if the raw data was available that'd be great.

Have any of you heard of a study like this? I've searched google scholar but came up empty. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing.

  1. "The largest and most recent is a Web-based survey conducted in fall 2005. The researchers polled a Knowledge Networks panel of 2,065 heterosexual, U.S. non-virgins with a median age in their late 40s. The average number of sexual partners the women reported was 8.6. The average number the men reported was 31.9. "

"One survey, recently reported by the U.S. government, concluded that men had a median of seven female s*x partners. Women had a median of four male s*x partners. Another study, by British researchers, stated that men had 12.7 heterosexual partners in their lifetimes and women had 6.5."

Besides the obvious "Everybody lies about s*x" theres the line from "Secret of Santa Vittoria" that claimed "all men were great lovers and all women were pure."

The problem with the difference in numbers is that they don't make sense. The need to be much closer to equal.

One site explains it through "the High School Prom Theorem. We suppose that on the day after the prom, each girl is asked to give the number of boys she danced with. These numbers are then added up, giving a number G. The same information is then obtained from the boys, giving a number B.

    "Theorem: G = B

"Proof: Both G and B are equal to C, the number of couples who danced together at the prom. QED."

s*x survey researchers say they know that men and women in a population must have roughly equal numbers of partners"

Why the difference? There's no firm answer. It's possible men exaggerate and women minimize, or that men frequent prostitutes (which weren't counted in the surveys), or that everybody is lying.

    Which makes the studies suspect
