im going to be a freshman in high school this fall, and i was wondering if i should start practicing for sat now? when do you usually start practicing? what do/did you use to practice for your sat? cds, books, guides? where did you buy them? were they expensive? anything at all will help. i just want to get a good start and do great when the time for the real thing comes. also when you take the psat, do you get any scholarships if you do extremely well on it? did you do any private tutoring as well? thanks so much!!!

  1. Test preparatory courses do help. At least they helped me. I took the Stanley Kaplan course about 30 years ago (when I was in your situation) and it brought me up considerably. Back then, there were no CDs , & PCs were very primitive. They may help. Good luck.

  2. WOW. Remarkable. Yes you should definitely start practicing for the college process as early as possible, but do not make it your top priority. SAT practice should begin around the end of your freshman year, but before then make sure that your grades do not drop one bit, if you can increase them. I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania, and from experience I can tell you that colleges do not just want a top academic student, but also a student that will help make their school a better place. Make sure you get some work experience, extracurricular activities, and of course, keep your grades up! Colleges want personality, but a great personality who can also hold their own in the academic field.

Hope I was of help, tootles!

  3. I already finished my freshman year and SAT's should have about 4 weeks of study maby 2 dont stress yourself over it take it slow and when you hear about it, start studying slowly.

overstressing is the worst way to study.

oh when i find somthing interesting it sticks in my mind for quite a while. I would try to make it all interesting to myself so i can remember it.

  4. the way i study for tests is i rite my notes over and over again and eventually you have no choice but to memorize them they get stuck in your head

  5. Hey...well I started practicing for my SAT's in 10th grade...I took SAT Prep classes and took more classes in 11th grade till I took the test and it was pretty effective..

If you want you can start studying for your SATs your freshman year, but I think even if you don't take SAT Prep classes your freshman year you won't lose anything..

If you don't wanna take an SAT Prep class then I suggest buying some books from barnes and noble or vromans book store...

you can buy CD's from best buy if you like..whichever one is more effective for you.

When you take the psat and do well on it, you don't get any scholarships...it just tells you if you're ready for the test or not and how much you should prepare..it's for your own knowledge.

I didn't need any private tutoring because by just reading the books and listening in class(in your case to the cds) you learn on your own and it's always better to trust your own instincts!

I think it's really good that you're so concerned on doing well on your SAT exam, because it IS really important and most people don't take it seriously...

    BEST OF LUCK TO YOU
