Do you think it would make sense to go to a college or university here in canada where i live or to go someplace else like california in the states? .. i talked to my parents about this and they say since im a girl it would be harder and since i dont have family there and im in a unkown place i will be vulnerable.. BUT think about this... when i move out i would be in that situation as well.. so the experience of going somewhere else would give me the extra learning skills of surviivng on my own... cost i dont think will be a problem except my parents say that if they dont agree then they wont pay for me to go ... which i think is unfair... im only a junior in highschool but i think that i shouldnt be denied a chance at a wonderfull learning experience??

what do you think of all this???

are my parents right or am i??

  1. I don't think your parents' reasons are particularly valid, but they are worried about you, so you need to help them understand how you would take care of yourself if you do study abroad.

As for the bigger question, should you do all of your college/university work in another country, I can't answer that.  A lot depends on what you want to do in life.  I firmly believe nearly everyone can benefit from some study abroad since it helps create a better global perspective and improve cross-cultural understanding.  However, if you're planning on returning to Canada, you'd have to choose a degree program that would work for you in both countries.

    Good luck.
