Which University in Hawaii has a good psychology program and medical school? What type of jobs can students get? If you work for the University can you get resident tuition? Is it better to live on campus or off campus? Do you have any tips for some moving to Hawaii to go to school there?

  1. The best psychology program is at Argosy University.

Medical school - John Burns Schools of Medicine (University of Hawaii)

You should call the financial aid office to find out how to get resident tuition. You definitely want to live off campus, unless you are in the one brand-new dorm.

Email me if you want more info. I have helped a lot of people move here for school. The best plan is to get your parents to pay for you room, that would be a huge plus. The next best thing is to get a good job, since most do not pay well. I would try to build on your existing schools and get a job that ties in to those.

  2. Wow, Beckee couldn't have answered that better. Hawaii is very expensive in education. Manoa campus is beautiful, but as she stated, unless you are independently wealthy or have family for support, then best bet is to research some colleges here on the mainland.

  3. 1) There is only one medical school in Hawaii: John A Burns School of Medicine, U. of Hawaii at Manoa. There are psychology programs at UH Manoa, Chaminade U., Hawaii Pacific U., and Brigham Young U.-Hawaii.

    2) Maybe. It is very difficult for UH students who move to Hawaii as students to get resident tuition. I've known some folks have difficult financial times because of it.

    3) I loved living on campus at UH, but not many people get to. There's a shortage of dorm spaces. Most folks at UH commute to campus and leave by 4 PM. UH Hilo, on the island of Hawaii is more of a residential campus, but HPU is essentially a cluster of office buildings downtown.

    4) Unless you're able to get into a good program like astronomy, are independently wealthy, swing a fantastic financial aid package, or have some compelling reason to be in Hawaii--like family--I would not recommend going to school here. It is very expensive, and there are many schools where you could get a much better education with a much more vibrant campus life than anywhere in Hawaii.
