Studying criminology online?

I'm studying criminology on line with open university, but i have no previous experience with this subject, I'm 25, am i being silly in signing up to this??? my parents tell me so.

  1. I was thinking of doing this myself, i don't think it's silly at all, if you are interested in it then why not? If it doesn't get you a job at least you got the experience and you've learned something new, i'm sure it will only lead to good things!

If you're doing the online thing to find out more about it to see if you want to get your degree in it, that's OK, but why aren't you taking classes at a local university?  From what I understand a degree is pretty much a requirement, since you will be called to testify and you will have to state your education and credentials.  I don't think the University of Homeinyourpajamas will give you much credibility.  If you're serious about this, start taking college classes even if it's part time.    

  3. I think it depends on the accreditation body. Will it be widely recognised? It is always great to learn but you need to check the awarding body just to make sure it will be worth while and worth the money you pay for it.

  4. I'm going to uni next year to do Criminology as a 'proper' degree and I dont have any previous experience in the subject. I love the subject and think that if you enjoy it and the degree will be useful then it is great, just dont waste your money.
