Hi, first of all we are taking about doing everything legally. I wanted to now if after I get a Bachelors Degree in something like industrial Design from a university in USA, I can start to work in a company or somewhere there? This without having to return to my country for some time. I am from Mexico.

Please answer someone that has gone through this (if possible tell me about your experience) or someone that knows well about this things? Thank you for your help!

  1. My girlfriend was born in Mexico and came here at age 8 illegally and now I am in the process of helping her become a legal citizen. I found a very helpful website that you may benefit from joining.

  3. Yes, it's called Optional Practical Training.

A student may apply to CIS for authorization for temporary employment for optional practical training directly related to the student's major area of study. The student may not begin optional practical training until the date indicated on his or her employment authorization document.

A student may submit an application for authorization to engage in optional practical training up to 90 days prior to being enrolled for one full academic year, provided that the period of employment will not begin until after the completion of the full academic year as indicated by the DSO.

  4. I went through that process myself. Got my working permit after graduation and work LEGALLY in the U.S. for a year. Optional Practical Training - OPT - permit is filed - through International Students Services - 3 months before graduation date.

That permit provides you with all rights and protection of the law. Overtime, benefits (if position entitles it, report abusive boss, etc.) the permit lasts for 12 months and is NON-renewable. Only exception STEM17 rule.

    Good luck
