Question:

Studying in Canada, experiences & questions?

I've been considering for a while to study abroad, somewhere in Canada (I'm Argentinian), and I would like to hear what are the experiences of both native and international students.

I'd be aiming for a Bachelor degree in English or something like that, and I know that tuiton fees in most Canadian universities are rather low - at least comparatively - but they're still very expensive to me. How does an international student manage to pay them off?

All in all, is Canada a nice play to live? Generally speaking, is it hard to get accepted to a Canadian university? What would you recommend me?

  1. Tuition will be your biggest problem, because you almost certainly won't qualify for either Argentinian or Canadian student loans. You should have at least $15,000 available before you come north. Canada's universities routinely accept international students, as long as you meet the academic and financial requirements.

Before coming, definitely put many hours and days into researching scholarships. And after you're in a university, try to find a part-time job, as many other students do.

Canada is wonderful. Thousands of Argentines already live here, not just in Toronto and Montreal, but also in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Vancouver. And those Argentines have learned that winter is very cold and snowy in all those cities except Vancouver.

  2. Canada is definitely a great place to study because it's beautiful, safe, and very affordable.

Canada is also a mixing pot of different nationalities, so international students should feel right at home when they study abroad there.

  3. You would probably get along best at one of the larger, big-city univesities where their are lots of international students and a big community of people from your home country. Basically this mean the University of Toronto (or York which is also in Toronto).
