  1. Does your dog have a "beard?"  Our Mini Schnauzer's water always has something floating in it!  She gets food, grass clippings & God knows what else in her little beard & it all washes off in her water bowl!  LOL  I just change her water frequently throughout the day & wash the bowl daily.

  2. Is your dish inside or outside?

If the this is inside it is back wash; food particles, etc.

If the water dish is outside; it could be one of a million different particles. It is always important that you wash the dishes before refilling so that bacteria doesn't grow.  I worked at a pet store and this

was stressed that we do this.

  3. could be calcium deposits from hard water that are dislodged by filling with more water.  As said above try a good wash and rub some vinegar or lemon juice on a paper towel and scrub away any white film still on the bowl.

  4. This used to happen to my cat all the time.  I figured out that I believe it was a combination of backwash and also leftover soggy food that falls into it.  I used to have the double bowl, whee one side for food and the other for water.

I have since gotten rid of the fancy pet bowl, and just use 2 small plastic tupperware bowls, but keep them several feet away from each other, so he couldn't constantly go back and forth, and by the time he went from his food bowl to the water bowl, he had time to finish chewing....  Anyways, it worked so that's probably what's going on with your dog too, try seperating the food/water bowls.... Or have fun cleaning all that slimy gross stuff, ugggggghhhh!!!

  5. When dogs eat some of the food sticks to their teeth, when they get a drink of water some of it falls off the teeth and into the water.  There is nothing wrong with your dog, it happens to my dog all the time.

  6. Maybe mineral build up from prior fillings.  Wash the bowl regularly with dish soap and rinse it with hot water, just like you do your own dishes that you eat and drink out of.  Getting rid of any left over yuckies!

  7. Make sure you change the water and clean out the bowl every few hours. Bacteria can build up within hours from food floating in the bowl. White specs doesn't sound like anything dangerous unless the bowl has been there for days.

  8. its normal. my dog's dish is like that too. Its like backwash.

I try to wash it (the dish) out sometimes, though, because frankly its gross. and your dog probably doesn't enjoy drinking out of backwash water. I mean, would you?

  9. What kind of bowl do you use?  If it's plastic or ceramic then it' might be particles of that.  If it's stainless, which is good, then it's something that the dog is putting in there....backwash like u said or pieces of toy or rawhide or chewie.  Watch him and clean his bowl a few times a day so you can narrow it down.
