Question:

Stuff to do in Vegas when alone?

I'm going to Vegas with my husband who is going for work. I've never been before (he has, but it was when he was underage). He'll be in meetings and at conferences much of the time during the day, and then will be free to do what he wants at night.

I'd like to not sit holed up in the hotel room all day long while he's busy, but I don't want to spend all day gambling (he's giving me a limit on what I can spend gambling anyway).

Anyone know of any fun or interesting things to do? Sights to see, etc, while I'm by myself?

  1. You should be able to find something to do on one of these sites. Vegas is full of free stuff some is obvious some you have to look for

  2. When you go to Las Vegas these usual things you will want to see for FREE:

    1. Number one on my list is to watch the fountains displays in front of the Bellagio hotel. It usually runs every 15 minutes in summers starting at 3:00 PM; runs continuously until about midnight. Each show is different (there are more than 20 different tunes choreographed) so stay and watch at least 2 or 3. ALSO, go inside the Bellagio hotel to its lobby and view the beautiful glass sculptured ceiling AND the seasonal floral arrangements in the Atrium. ( http://www.bellagio.com/amenities/founta... )

    2. The “Sirens of TI” show (spectacular) in from of the Treasure Island Hotel; it runs every 90 minutes starting at about 4:30 PM. Simply stand on the sidewalk in front of the TI Hotel. http://www.treasureisland.com/pages/ent_...

    3. The volcano erupt in from of the Mirage Hotel; starting at dark until midnight. Again, just stand on the sidewalk in front of the hotel.

    4. Go down to Fremont Street and see the light shows. There are usually 3 or 4 different shows, starting after dark (about 8:30PM) and lasting about 5 or 10 minutes each.

    5. Go to the RIO hotel to see the Masquerade in the Sky show. It is like Mardi Gras parade, only suspended from the ceiling over the gambling floor. It runs every 60 minutes starting about 3:00 PM; the last show starts at 9:30 PM..

    6. Go in Caesars Palace and walk through the Forum shops to the first fountain (its spectacular) then take the first fork to the left to go see the aquarium. Then continue on through the shops to the second fountain and wait for the show to start.

If you are a Star Trek Fan, go to the Hilton (off the strip) for "Star Trek The Experience"; it cost about $35.

Here's a listing of all of the shopping places other than the hotel shops.

There is Fashion Show Mall, which is like the malls in any city with small stores and large department stores including Macy's and Neiman Marcus. It opens about 10:00AM and closes about 9:00 PM. (http://www.thefashionshow.com/html/index...

There is an outlet mall on the Strip just south of the airport called Las Vegas Outlet Center, 7400 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las. You can easily drive, take a bus or taxi there. It's open every day but does close to 10:00 PM: (http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/ou...

Then there is a mall that people who live in Vegas use on Maryland Parkway, about a mile east of the Strip. Its called the Boulevard Mall and its address is 3528 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV. It has regular mall hours from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. ( http://www.boulevardmall.com/html/index1...

Then there is another outlet mall near downtown Las Vegas called Las Vegas Chelsia Premium Outlets, 875 South Grand Central Parkway. Its also open 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.( http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/ou...

Then there is an outlet mall in Primm, Nv which is about 45 minutes drive south of Las Vegas right on I-15; at the Ca/Nv border. It has all types of outlet stores and there are hotels, casinos and restaurants there also. Its worth the drive. (http://www.fashionoutletlasvegas.com/)

MOVIES: There are movie theaters in the Palms (multiplex) which is just off the Strip on Flamingo Road (across from the Rio Hotel) and also another on the Strip across the street from the Monte Carlo hotel, near the MGM hotel. Then there are more movie theaters off the strip in the Orleans Hotel/Casino, in the Red Rock Canyon Hotel/Casino and the Green Valley Ranch Hotel/Casino.

BOWLING: If you like to bowl, there are alley's in The Gold Coast Hotel/Casino (beside the RIO) and in the Orleans Hotel Casino. .

If you have access to a car:

RED ROCK CANYON: Its about 20 miles west of Las Vegas out Charleston Blvd (you can pick up that street at the north end of the Strip) It’s a scenic drive-through park. Go early, not in the heat of the day; there's no shade.

HOOVER DAM: Drive about 30 miles southeast of Vegas and go to Hoover Dam; the National Park Service offers tours there ($12.) and its interesting stuff. Go on past Hoover dam to Boulder City and then to Lake Meade for a swim and/or to visit the new casino there. Also, there are tour companies that will take you on a cruise of the river below Hoover Dam.

  3. Walk around on the Strip, go in all the Casinos, the people watching is fabulous! I live here.

  4. If you love to shop, go to the Fashion Show Mall by TI.  Its shoppers heaven.  If you do nothing but window shop, you can't cover the mall in one day.

Take a pool day.  Lounge by the pool with a good book and sunscreen.

    Wander through the nearby casinos:

The Mirage has a huge aquarium behind the check in desk and the area smells like a tropical paradise.  They also have Seigfried and Roy's Dolphin Habitat.

The Bellagio has the Conservatory with a seasonal change of flowers, aquatic gardens and even dancing water.  Its a must see and its free!

Then go to Jean Louis Patiserie and see the worlds largest chocolate factory.  Its just around the corner.  Then go outside and watch the dancing water fountains set to music.

Every casino has something to see and some have their own shopping malls:  Caesars has the Forum shops and one of only two in the world curved escalators.  (Also some of the most expensive clothes you've ever seen!)  The Bellagio has the Bellagio shops,  Planet Hollywood has the Miracle Mile.  There is also a cool shopping and restaurant area called Town Center just south of Mandalay Bay with outdoor shopping and cool restaurants.  (I'd save that for time with the hubby.)

Or find a hot penny machine and while away the day playing pennies!

I love to people watch and you'll sure get an eyeful.   Remember not to wander off the Strip by yourself and stay confident.  I've gone to LV by myself for work and just entertained myself for hours.

    Have fun!!

  5. Vegas is a great city to be in alone!  You can make friends with anyone there!

Go gamble, talk to people you play with, go out to clubs and lounges and talk to people!

When I go to Vegas I always try to meet as many people as possible!

    Have fun!

  6. Go to the wax museum on the strip.  There are plenty of store and other attractions to see even during the day.

  7. treat yourself to a spa day ... you can book a massage or facial and use the facilities also ... this includes steam room, jacuzzi, shower rooms with amazing bath lotions ...

  8. Go sightseeing.  Red Rocks area is cool is so is Valley of Fire, both outside the city but not too far of a drive.  Or take a tour of those places with a tour company like Grayline.  Also, can go to top of Stratosphere Tower.  Great observation deck.  Beats the one at Paris.  The Liberace Museum is interesting and in Vegas.  There are many attractions that are free or low price at the many hotels on the strip.  The Flamingo Hilton has all the cute flamingoes, penguins, and more to look at.  There's the volcano eruption at Mirage.  Treasure Island has the pirate show.  If you go into downtown Vegas, they have lots of artists who are interesting to watch.  The Luxor has the King Tut exhibit and I think they have a short cruise there.  Check out Caesar's Palace.  Very cool place.  Love the architecture and they way they dress there.  I think you can ride a gondala there.  Most of the major hotels have at least one good attraction.  Get yourself a book on Vegas and start looking.  That's what I did.  Have fun!  I went there by myself three times, by the way.

  9. My daughter does the same thing when her husband is at the convention in Las Vegas.

She goes to the mall, usually Fashion Square. You can catch a bus if you don't have transportation. If you are staying at an upper end hotel, ask the Concierge, they may have free transportation available. They are also a great source of things to do.

Visit some of the other hotels and casinos, most are fascinating, some (Caesars, Bellagio) and others has shopping areas in them.

The Red Rock, Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam areas are nice but will require transportation and one person should never go into the desert alone, not even to Red Rock. It's certainly safe, but it's still the desert. As for Hoover Dam aandthey offer tours and transportation from town. Again, your hotel Concierge can arrange that for you.

Have fun, and, if with your gambling limit you win a bunch of money, only give a portion to your husband.

  10. There are lots of fun things to do in Vegas and some of them are even free. Here is a list. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/things-to...
