I installed a stumbleupon toolbar, it bookmarked things that i thumbed up (and some that i thumbed down), so i disabled it so it wouldn't do that anymore

When I go to organize bookmarks they aren't there but if i type in something they appear in the drop down of firefox 3 address bar.

  1. Ok, I did some more investigating and discovered that you're right - the latest version of StumbleUpon can save bookmarks in Firefox 3. On my computer it saves them in a the 'Recent tags' section of the Bookmark folder under the name 'SU'. Had i not encountered your question i would never have noticed it.

It can be turned off by by clicking 'tools -> toolbar options' on the toolbar and clicking on the 'search and tabbing' tab..you then unclick the check next to 'save favorites and tags to a firefox bookmark folder'.

I don't know if uninstalling the toolbar removes the 'SU' folder but if it does you can still get access to any links you saved using Stumble by going directly to the website

http://www.stumbleupon.com/  and logging into your account.

A good way to protect and backup your Firefox bookmarks is to use a Firefox add-on called 'Foxmarks'  http://www.foxmarks.com/

It can store your bookmarks automatically as you make them and keeps a copy of your list in a password protected server. If you have multiple computers using Firefox (or even multiple operating systems on the same computer using Firefox) you can synchronize all your bookmarks so that you can always have the same bookmark list everywhere. If also stores them in exactly the way you same them so if you reorganize your list on one computer it saves that and updates the others if you choose to let it. If you're using someone else's PC you can still access your bookmarks by logging into the foxmarks website and using your bookmarks from within the browser window.
