Stunning team effort helps Baltimore Orioles outclass Boston Red Sox 8-6 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles outclassed Boston Red Sox 8-6 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, June 5 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Orioles, who made an impressive start to the season, have seen their game play hit the lowest mark over the last couple of weeks. Their win against the Red Sox on Tuesday evening was their third in last ten games and it will be interesting to see if
they can sweep the Red Sox in this series to stay at the top of American League East Division standings.
Adam Jones had a single to left centre in the third inning to put the Orioles 1-0 ahead. Matt Wieters also had a decent outing as he earned an RBI single to left to double Orioles’ advantage to 2-0.
"I try not to get too high and too low, but that's one of our better wins of the year. That was a real test for us a little bit," manager Buck Showalter said.
"It was my fault, so I wanted to get back out there," said Jim Johnson who blew a two run lead in the bottom of the ninth. "They knew I was a little hot, so they kind of stayed away. We started putting some guys in position and we started getting some hits
and I knew I was going back out. It just worked out."
Dustin Pedroia hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the fifth to level score 2-2 for the Red Sox but Baltimore continued to battle back. Steve Pearce had a sacrifice fly to centre in the sixth to give his side 3-2 lead.
Boston also responded immediately and Mike Aviles and Daniel Nava scored to give them a crucial 4-3 lead. J.J. Hardy, Mark Reynolds and Pearce capped a three run seventh inning for the Orioles and Endy Chavez drove in the match winning run in the tenth to
break Boston’s hearts. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit the only home run of the game in the ninth to level score at 6-6.
