Stupid Flys?

In My Hamsters Cage, flys keep on getting in through the bars... I am worried sick that I will get maggots in my hammys cage... If I do get maggots will it harm them?? How can I keep the flys away?

  1. take the top of your cage off as if your going to clean it out and spray the bars with fly repelent and leave to dry for 5 minutes dont wipe off and then replace on to the cage....only do this if your hampsters dont bite the bars!!!!! other then that the only other thing i can suggest is sticking a piece of plastic over your railings making sure your can still get into your cage using the door.

  2. try some mosquito netting over the cage - that should work and the little hamsters will be able to breathe allright .

  3. Perhaps you could try putting something that's a bit more tempting to the flies in the vicinity of the cage e.g. a sweet biscuit then when the flies are around that area, they are more likely to want to investigate the biscuit and leave hammie alone.

    If they still keep going in the cage, it might be a good idea to maybe clean it out more often during the summer.  Maybe there's something in there (fruit or veg that hammie hasn't eaten for example) that could do with not being there.
