Stupid GPS - "Perform U-Turn Here" - (on a freakin highway!)?

Well, its the people that made it that.

Its just this one instance: They haven't taken into consideration that U-Turns are illegal on highways.

Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. And when the highway patrol gives you a ticket you can always say that the GPS made you do it. I'm sure this is just a joke by a programmer who is sitting somewhere laughing his a$$ off at what he did to confuse motorists.

  2. It's a problem with the map data collection.  At some point in quality control they did not add an attribute to note that U-turns are prohibited on that particular road or the roads were not digitized correctly, allowing for an intersection to exist on the highway where the GPS routing engine thinks you can make a U-turn.

There is an easy solution to your problem.  I chose the option on my Garmin nuvi 200 to avoid U-turns.  One of the reasons I bought the nuvi was because my Magellan handheld has a crummy routing algorithm that likes to instruct U-turns.  If you have a decent GPS receiver, it should give you the option to avoid U-turns.  Such maneuvers are unsafe and shouldn't be done, even if you aren't on a highway.
