  1. You need a passport in any place you travel that what I know

  2. For travelling between EU/Schengen-countries you just need an ID-Card. Since UK-citizens do not have ID-Cards, they need a passport.

  3. You need either a passport or a National Identity card to travel to another country. A driver's license will not even enable him to check-in at the airport. He is probably confusing a passport with a visa - you do not require a visa if you are an EU citizen travelling to another EU country.

  4. If you are European you don't need passport you just need your I.D card. But It's just between the countries from the European Union.

So If you wanna go to a country from European Union and your country is also from European Union you just need your ID Card, you don't need passaport.

  5. The general rule is that, if your native country is a member of the EU and you are going to another EU member country, you just need a photo ID card. If it´s true what the previous answerer said that you don´t have ID´s in England, then of course a passport is needed.

If you are insecure about this, why not ask a tourist office or the passport authorities. I mean that way you avoid arguing with your boyfriend.
