Stupid rugby league question.....?

when the players tackle someone, then get off them and stand at marker, they often stick their arm out and point to the side.......

......why?

  1. It can be for a number of reasons,,mostly to direct the attack or to trick the defense.


  2. its supose to tell the second marker which way he is to go.cause most of the time the first marker will be a bit lazy or the bloke playing the ball will be in his way. sometimes the first marker might have heard which way the ball is going so he points.

  3. They are pointing in the area where there is a gap in the defencive line

  4. There indicating to the second marker which direction they will travel in defence once the ball has been played. The second marker then knows to cover the other side. The reason you will generally not see anybody run the direction they point is because if a player does dart from dummy half there gonna go towards the space and if they go the same direction as the first marker there just gonna get tackled and waste one. Instead they go towards the second markers side where they have more space to get around the defender and attempt to breach the defensive line

  5. I'm not too sure on this but I thought they were pointing the way they thought the direction of the play would go from the dummy half..

    Anyone who actually knows feel free to correct me but that's what I think it is :)

  6. Its to tell the marker behind them which way they are going so the other guy goes the other way.

    Stops dummy half runs.
