Stupid rumor being spread?

This one girl is saying my guy friend made up having a girlfriend and I told the girl what was being said about her and she told her bf ( my guy friend) and now, hes mad at me. Ive told him over and over that me and my bf don't believe the rumor because he and his gf are so close to us, why would we believe it? Now, i dont know how to fix this situation. I normally keep secrets, but this was just bothering me inside to the point where I felt if this girl found out I didnt tell her the rumor, she would no longer want to talk to me. What should I do?

in school many rumars will be spread alot wont be true. its about high school. just remember keep your grades up . that should be ur main priority. it should not be about popularity because years from now all those popular kids will have like five kids and live in a trailor. be some one... keep your grades up

talk to your friends girlfriend about it tell her that you obviously know its not true and that you were gunna feel really bad if you didnt tell them and that you thought it'd be better if you told them rather then someone else who though it was true

ask if she can tell her boyfriend that and ask her to tell him you'd like to talk with him about it
