The striker has been looking to prove his worth and feels that the Olympic stage is the perfect way to do so, especially after he wasn’t given a chance to represent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in the Euro 2012.
When talking about the Olympics, the young striker is quoted to have said: "This was the centre-piece of my summer"
"It was the right stage to show what I am capable of, but I was more than a bit concerned about missing it”
The striker then went on to talk about how he wasn’t even sure if he would be able to make the team, considering how he picked up an injury. However, he revealed that he was delighted by the fact that he took a risk and it proved to work out for him in the
end.
The English forward went on to add: "A week after contracting meningitis, I was unsure whether I would be coming or not. At that stage I certainly felt worse than I thought I would"
"Thankfully, as time went on I improved, although there were only a couple of days to go before we made the decision to go for It."
The forward then went on to end by admitting that he was rather happy to be a part of the Olympics, since otherwise he would only be able to witness it via a television set.

Sturridge now needs to go on and prove his worth in the Great Britain team. Should he end up performing better then that what is expected of him, he could make a claim to being in the England squad as well.
At the same time, his performances would go on to determine just where he lays in the Chelsea pecking order for the coming season.
