Stuttering?

Last night i was with this girl, who I really like.. Anyways at times it got really hard for me to choose the right words to say. For example she'd say something and I'd start to respond however; in the middle of my response I'd totally lose the right words to say and pause for a second and think of the right words to finish the sentence, I sounded like a 5 year old it was so bad. Anyways though I really like her and I wanted to tell her so I tried to man up and tell her before she left to go inside her house, anyways it took me over 10min to think of the write words, I'd start then stop then start and then I just told her to let me restart and it was still hard and when I finally just said "I like you" 10mins passed and she just was nice and said she doesn't want to risk our friendship. Is what I did last night stuttering?

  1. No it is called a "mental block".  That happens a lot to me when I have to take any kind of test when applying for a job.  You are stressed and nervous, so that's why it happened, especially because you do like her.

  2. stuttering  is  not being  able to  complete  individual  words without repeating sounds  like p-p-please

all you  need  is  a  dictionary,  a  thesaurus,  and  the  daily  crossword

  3. Although stuttering is often linked to anxiety - and trying to speak too fast  - you just had a simple case of first night nerves. You sund a very nice person who, quite naturally, wanted to be honest about how you felt but couldn't find the right words and I'm not surprised - that's a lot of emotion you were trying to express.

Your friend understood this and still wants to be friends with you (she sounds very nice too) but she's right, it's a little bit too much too soon. Once you know someone really well those words will come much more easily.

I know this sounds hard but do what she says, just concentrate on enjoying her and other people's company and relaxing around them. Taking the pressure off makes things feel much nicer and more natural. As time goes by you'll become more confident and it'll will all fall into place.
