Stuttgart 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt – Full time Analysis (Part 1)
Stuttgart has fallen a couple more stairs in the race to establish themselves as one the biggest disappointments of this season in the Bundesliga. After 7 matches, they are now at the last position in the German League.
While they finished at the 6th position in their domestic league last season, their performance has been light years away from how it was last season.
The club has continued their dismissive performance having won just 1 of their 7 matches; acquiring just 3 points in the process.
Under the leadership of manager Christian Gross, the club faced another loss today after they faced humiliation which took them a step closer to relegation.
The miseries for Stuttgart continued in the afternoon as the Swabians were thwarted 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena against Eintracht Frankfurt.
If the match was broken into parts, then the hosts did play impressively. However, moments of brilliance can’t help a team win a match.
Lady Luck had also deserted Stuttgart as they struck the wood work at least 3 times along with a goal that was ruled off by referee Felix Brych.
Nevertheless, the hosts would have to admit that their defence lacked concentration in polite terms. Frankfurt’s forwards cut through Stuttgart defence like a knife through butter. They managed to slip on the wings and produced threatening crosses.
This loss for Stuttgart has certainly put the job of manager Christian Gross in danger after a string of poor performances.
A lucky goal from Theofanis Gekas was the strike that put Frankfurt in the lead. Chris then came onto double the lead by taking advantage in the middle of the second half.
Just breaths after that, Matthieu Delpierre got himself ruled of the pitch via a red card. After that, Pavel Pogrebnyak was able to crack one in the net but in the end it proved nothing more than consolidation.
The match did turn into a thriller however as an equalizer was expected till the referee blew his final whistle. Cacau nearly had the right stride to put in a leveller however his goal was called off by the referee as it was deemed offside. In the end though,
the performance from the hosts was poor, the guests on the other hand barely snatched a deserving victory.
During the 18th minute of the game, a lethargic ball bounced twice in the box before Gekas was able to skip with it and strike it into the net from a close ranged shot.
The Greek international’s strike was just before Christian Traesch’s stunner. Traesch was able to hammer a long ranged shot that got deflected from the cross bar eventually landing on to the goal line before being cleared of into the distance.
After that Pavel Pogrebnyak had an open chance but fired off wide. In the proceedings Cacau also caught fire and forced the goal keeper to break a sweat and make difficult saves.
Whatever the performance had been in the end the individual efforts went in vain as the lack of commitment by Stuttgart was punished severely.
