Question:

Style of "The Honourable"?

I know a lot about the peerage, so don't simply write me off as a Wikipedia copy and paste.

I'm just wondering if anyone's ever noticed that it's a bit unfair that the younger sons of Earls use the same style as sons and daughters as life peers? An Earl is still, in most opinions, a senior peer- younger sons of Dukes and Marquesses use the style of "Lord", but why don't younger sons of Earls?

  1. Odd,isn't it.It has something to do with the order of precedence among title rankings. The lowest peerage-rankings of baron and earl do not come with many auxiliary titles,so the younger sons are left out,due to primogeniture, the eldest son inheriting all,as well as taking the father's next title down while waiting.
