I think there are a few fighting styles that MMA fighters could use more. Everyone does BJJ, boxing, wrestling & kickboxing but what about other styles. Do you agree with my list below? How would you change the list?

1) Amatuer Sumo wrestling. The concept works very well for MMA, basically move you opponent around the ring.

2) Judo / Sambo for the pinning aspect. Holding pins is a good skill for G-N-P

3) Pure Greco Roman for clinch and endurance

  1. totally agree, just add some iron palm training, and it would be perfect.

  2. Tai fighting for the clinches and knee strikes. They can be devestating.

  3. Kajukenbo

  4. Judo and Sambo are huge parts of MMA have you ever watched a MMA event?

Greco Roman is an even bigger part Randy COutore is a PURE Greco Roman wrestler and he is the UFC heavyweight champion so is Mark COleman.

  5. I think that a good style is a brawler, like Kimbo Slice. Those guys are as tough as h**l and can throw you some nasty attacks. If they're down, they have great endurance against attacks, and if you give them an opening, you will pay for it.

  6. not enough judo. look how good parisyan utilizes it.

  7. Sambo got a big name tho when people learned Fedor Emenelienko practiced in that before fighting

Judo is a little under utilized

    Greco Roman not so much

Savate i think is extremely under utilized

    its French Kickboxing

focused largely on speed not power

but they don't use knees or elbows

that being said they have some nasty nasty kicks you don't expect, the first UFC featured a Savatuer (someone who fights in savate)

i found a vid on youtube a while ago

    Savate vs Muay Thai

    no knees or elbows

but in savate you train with boots so he wasn't allowed those

Sumo is gunna make a name soon, consider Machida uses some of it, and look at him fighting Tito, Tito tried to take him down and he pushed him around like a rag doll

im a little surprised some more Silat, open handed stuff isn't used

    i know its weapons based

but they fight in knee and elbow strike range and the open handed disarm techniques are some nasty wrist and arm locks

  8. jabs and uppercuts
