Question:

Styrofoam INSIDE air conditioner?

I purchased a brand new Haier air conditioner yesterday. I took it out of the box and removed exterior styro foam, etc.

I noticed that there is styrofoam inside the air conditioner where I cannot get at it to remove it.

I opened the front where you can remove the filter but it doesn't not allow access to where I see the styrofoam, which is right under the air vents on the top. There is a lot of it too. It looks likes it goes all the way around a large round component.

I can't imagine styrofoam being part of the unit. It wouldn't last that long and would probably get wet due to condensation that occurs in air conditioners.

Do you think I am suppose to unscrew the whole unit to get it out? It doens't mention it in the owners manual.

Do you think it suppose to be there, or perhaps it was a mistake?

Also, some of the fins in the back and front had tiny crushed sections. I'm afraid that will make it whistle at some point. What do you think?

Thanks

  1. leave it in its suposed to be their as for the foam getting wet it will not matter its bonded together with water to make the whole piece. its also great insolation

  2. It's insulation! DO NOT REMOVE! The fins can be straightened with a comb. There will be no noise!

  3. Leave it alone its for noise reduction and insulation(its a special styrofoam)

  4. Hi, Leave that styrofoam there. It is for sound reduction and most importantly to not have the pieces of metal it is touching 'sweat' with the humidity in the room. If you remove it the airconditioner may drain water in unusual places. The crushed sections may be carefully straightened with maybe careful use of a knife blade or a fin straightener. This will enable the unit to operate at top efficiency.
